The watermark makes it really annoying to read, but unless it gets refuted by Google, it has to be real, right? (That's how these things work these days...?)

- p1necone 8y agoThe Breitbart watermark makes me very suspicious, I would treat it as probably worthless until we see more reliable sources.
- tropo 8y agoWhy? It's no different from the logo on a TV network news video feed. It's just a news agency trying to make things painful for competitors trying to steal a story without credit. If not for Breitbart being censored (fitting this story...) by Hacker News, the original article might have been linked: https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/10/09/the-good-censor-leaked-google-briefing-admits-abandonment-of-free-speech-for-safety-and-civility/ https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/10/09/the-good-censor-le...
- gugujbh 8y agoSo basically HN is subverting copyright laws because of misguided moderation principals. Way to go.
- shittyadmin 8y agoThey're definitely not the most reputable news source and many of their opinion pieces definitely step into fake territory, but I think outright falsifying an entire document like this would be a very extreme move, even for them.
- batiudrami 8y agoMore likely that someone else falsified it and they didn't fact check correctly. But Google's statement appears to confirm that it's real.
- spangry 8y agoThe Breitbart article states: "Responding to the leak, an official Google source said the document should be considered internal research, and not an official company position." So I suppose that's confirmation of authenticity (sort of). The article can be found here: https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/10/09/the-good-censor-leaked-google-briefing-admits-abandonment-of-free-speech-for-safety-and-civility/ https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/10/09/the-good-censor-le...
- jhabdas 8y agoSo where's the video? Or was that censored too?
- tropo 8y agoI think you mean the video of Google executives showing partisan behavior at a meeting. If so, it's on this page: https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/09/12/leaked-video-google-leaderships-dismayed-reaction-to-trump-election/ https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/09/12/leaked-video-googl... The group hug at 0:16:50 is seriously creepy. Grabbing your coworkers is considered inappropriate or worse in normal American workplaces.
- plaguuuuuu 8y agoHugging people, literally the worst thing that has ever happened
- mc32 8y agoI wonder if the same internal people who protested "project dragonfly" would object so vehemently to this "research" project as well. I would hope that they would, but I'm a bit hesitant to be sure --which is a bit frightening as it kind of would confirm people can hold two opposing views simultaneously as long as it fits their framework.
- eksemplar 8y agoWhy would it be real when it was leaked by breitbart? Are the lizard people also real? Is the earth flat? Do vaccines cause autism?
- zaroth 8y agoYou obviously don't read Breitbart.
- eksemplar 8y agoNot after reading about the Clinton’s on it, no. I don’t particularly like the Clintons, but unlike breitbart, I do consider them to be human beings.
- tylersmith 8y agoBreitbart has claimed that the Clintons are not human beings? Or is that made up hyperbole for what they actually said?
