Hello everyone. Didn’t expect to see myself here. I was so startled I made an account.
Ah… you’ll probably enjoy my new book about maths mistakes. Check if your favourite programming error is in there!

- d2p 8y agoDid you use a "maths mistake" in HN to get yourself here? ;-)
- y4mi 8y agothat url is dangerous. it uses a strategy which is mainly utilized by phishing websites to mask the legitimacy of a fqdn. Its also http, so easily modified by hostile parties. imo a very poor idea considering how you ultimately end up on a shop. i know its just a 301 redirect vhost, but nonetheless...
- andrewshadura 8y agoHi Matt, great to see you here, I enjoyed your performance at freenode.live last year in Bristol.
- standupmaths 8y agoThanks! I enjoyed that evening in the museum. My spherical camera is still working as well.
- adito 8y agowait... you are on freenode irc network too or just attending the freenode.live event?
- standupmaths 8y agoSadly I was only hanging out at the live event (as the so-called “entertainment”).
- liftbigweights 8y agoI swear everyone who advertises here says the same thing. "Hello everyone. Didn’t expect to see myself here." followed by you can get my product here.
- anonytrary 8y agoYou're probably thinking it's a bit suspicious seeing that the account was made 62 minutes after the post was submitted. It could be that the user just browses HN regularly, saw this post about him, and wanted to separate his comment histories from his main account.
- standupmaths 8y agoYes: I normally lurk on HN. But people started messaging me when this reached the top, of course. I can confirm I don’t know or have any connection with the OP.
- SyneRyder 8y agoI can share how it happened. I logged into HN today to read more about the Apple/Amazon/China news, then almost spat out my coffee when I saw Matt was #1 on Hacker News. I went to high school & university with Matt, so it felt really surreal, and I immediately tweeted Matt to tell him: https://twitter.com/syneryder/status/1048507531352571904 https://twitter.com/syneryder/status/1048507531352571904
- standupmaths 8y agoI can confirm all of this is true. I mean, I don’t know how close SyneRyder was to spitting out coffee (or even if they were drinking coffee? how deep does this go?) but everything else is a fact.
- standupmaths 8y agoThat is a great observation. It reminds me of when I was recording my latest DVD special, also available on download and floppy disk. http://festivalofthespokennerd.com/dvd http://festivalofthespokennerd.com/dvd
- taneq 8y agoHi Matt! Great to see you're doing so well! (Fellow UWA alum and Slime Volleyball ex-World-Champion here. :D )
- standupmaths 8y agoHello! It’s been a long time since playing slime volleyball on translucent iMacs.
- asztal 8y agoDidn't expect to see you posting here either. Anyway, thanks for teaching me what a sausage catastrophe is!
- WakiMiko 8y agoDoes it cover the Parker Square?
- jedimastert 8y agoHey Matt! I'm surprised you didn't have an account before, although I guess lurking's a lot easier around these parts. I just wanted to let you know that I've been a really big fan for a really long time, and you are part of the reason I'm so openly nerdy and excited about math and science in general. Thanks for all of the amazing content you put out. Also, Let me know if you're gonna be in the Boston area any time. I'd love to buy you a pint.
