Another big one is to automate common tasks. Get some software that tracks everything you do, and make a list of the most common things you do on a day to day basis. If you find something that takes up a lot of mental energy or time. Then build a program to automate that and bind it to a hot-key and popup input box. For example, I often had to identify bugs against weird data in the database, I made a program that would take a snapshot of a bunch of database tables, and then run my code which would change them, then I could click a button to restore the buggy state and try again.
