Every Airsofter I see has a Baofeng in an imitation Harris casing and freely uses it in their games. None of them have ham licenses. The spectrum is regulated for reasons, but there seems to be zero enforcement. This is in the UK.
- stefan_ 8y agoThe spectrum is regulated because you can use uncertified radio equipment, if these are banned anyway, the regulation makes no sense anymore.
- gaius 8y agoUmm the entire spectrum is regulated. This is only about one small slice of it.
- stefan_ 8y agoThe ham radio spectrum is specifically regulated to require training because you will be using uncertified radio equipment that can communicate on whatever band you want, not just the ham radio ones.
- lima 8y agoThe only bands you can use uncertified radio equipment on are ISM[1] (with strict limits) and ham radio bands. [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISM_band https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISM_band
- lima 8y agoMany people (mistakenly) believe that these are PMR446/LPD radios. Some countries like Switzerland banned their sale altogether.
