There was some unofficial tool to flash firmware on Linux. When I took my Carbon to IT, they just booted Windows off of an external SSD disk.
Also, LVFS: https://fwupd.org/lvfs/component/1023/all https://fwupd.org/lvfs/component/1023/all <- to me, personally, this didn't work. I suspect it had to do with UEFI mode.
