Seems that proficiency in J needs more memorisation than proficiency in Python. Some people get on better with this memorisation demand. Some prefer more stuff explicitly written out in their programs, which means bigger programs, so you'll need to scroll up and down the file to see everything. Arthur Whitney, creator of the K APL, reportedly hates scrolling [0]. Different people have different preferences, because their brains work differently. There's nothing wrong, no 'problem', with this situation.
