You have to be able to trust your tools.
Imagine if “rm” just decided to occasionally set aside files instead of removing them. The “star” in “rm star” means “remove everything”, not “remove, asterisk” where at the bottom of the page the asterisk lists exceptions like some kind of marketing weasel. Sheesh.
