men and women. parity folks. dont be so misogynist
- Shikadi 8y agoQuoted from the article: "Some of the people ostensibly turning in those 80- or 90-hour workweeks, particularly men, may just be faking it."
- jnwatson 8y agoRead the article. It was mostly men that faked it, while women would request lighter work more formally and be punished for it.
- withinrafael 8y agoThe study included women and results differed between the two. Misogyny is not in play here. "A second finding is that women, particularly those with young children, were much more likely to request greater flexibility through more formal means, such as returning from maternity leave with an explicitly reduced schedule. Men who requested a paternity leave seemed to be punished come review time, and so may have felt more need to take time to spend with their families through those unofficial methods." [Edit: Unfortunately, a moderator made a similar error and revised the title. Ah well. The previous title was: How Some Men Fake an 80-Hour Workweek, and Why It Matters]
- ghaff 8y agoOne big difference is that you can often gain flexibility unofficially when you are, well, flexible about it. Fewer hours or less travel so long as you do so informally and schedule around various work constraints. Whereas if you really need shorter work hours or to minimize travel or whatever in a predictable way, you probably need to get it down on paper.
- rustcharm 8y agoIt's "misandry" not "misogyny". A hatred of men.
- rustcharm 8y agoHacker News edits the facts, and even titles, to suit their agenda. Sad.
- dang 8y agoI don't know how to edit facts, but we edit titles to suit the agenda of having neutral titles. The article's title was obviously baiting people into yet another gender flamewar.
