Carrots are a great crop, especially if you are growing them large to feed a lot of people, they get their highest price when harvested smaller than full size potential as restaurants want them smaller. The method of germination and planting discussed in this article might work on a small scale but for North American scale farm production silage tarps can be used rather than sticks and straw to maintain moisture, then removed once germination occurs also the thin row planting on top of mounds may cause more weeds to grow, instead of planting in multiple rows across a bed which will shade out weed plants. I have heard you can harvest over 200 lbs of carrots from a 50 foot long 30 inch wide bed.
