That is really interesting and sad that you have had such a bad experience, I own both a generation 4 and 5, and haven't had any issues at all. I have only used mine in Denmark and the UK, so that is quite cold conditions so that might be one reason why I haven't experienced any overheating issues. I do seem to remember disabling bluetooth+wifi to save battery, but I do not need to charge ahead of time. Maybe you got a bad camera, and maybe that is why it wasn't profitable to continue.
