While I agree with Patterson, I'd be careful with the expectations though. Computational engineering is highest tech. Whatever purpose, whatever specialization, processors are the central domain in modern technology and engineering. It would still take decades to find a feasible approach to make new architectures work (in silicon). But I agree that it is an exciting time, I want to see new clever architectures emerging, competing and be used for different purposes.
