Never heard of Qwant before. How does it compare to duckduckgo and startpage?
- hobofan 8y agoThe main differentiator that is probably responsible for this decision: "Qwant is also a Brave Verified Publisher" (from the blog post).
- Raed667 8y agoI have used duckduckgo a few years ago, I found myself going back to google "!g" often. More recently, I started using Qwant it seems to be better (subjectively) but from time to time I find myself heading to google again.

More recently, I started using Qwant it seems to be better (subjectively) but from time to time I find myself heading to google again. This is a common narrative but if you think about it, it's bad data: * Question: Which solution, A or B, outputs more accurate results? * Method: Collect inputs for which A outputs inaccurate results; run those inputs through B. ... obviously, the data from the experiment isn't meaningful to the original question.
- Mononokay 8y agoIt used to be better than both, flat out. Information-dense interface, mid-weight size-wise, semi-relevant search results at least 90% of the time, etc. Now, though, they revamped the interface, it takes three times as long to load, and the results are less and less relevant as time goes on. Loses 100% to DDG presently, I'd say it's a tossup between it and Startpage, just because Startpage's interface is kind of the anti-Qwant; a semi-clunky, lightweight extreme rather than a semi-fluid, heavy extreme. I'd recommend skipping out on it, personally.
- NeedMoreTea 8y agolite.qwant.com gives an interface as light as Google or DDG, without all the social and news garbage on the main page. Doesn't need JS active like the default home page either.
- forapurpose 8y agoDoes anyone know anything about Startpage? All I see is a website with the text of a good privacy policy. But who the heck are they? Why should I trust them? Compare that with DuckDuckGo, whose leadership, support, and activities are widely known and who I know are more committed and competent than some random person who typed up a privacy policy. I don't mean to raise doubts about Startpage - I'd love to know more about them so I could have more confidence in them and have another alternative. Also, I find that non-technical users seem to stick with it more than with DDG, when I introduce them to it.
