Apple was added to PRISM in 2012 and we have no reason to believe the programs they have been required to cooperate in have been dismantled, if anything we should assume they have been strengthened.
- singularity2001 8y agoYes, people must not forget this! iPhone is certainly not a private device, just an order of magnitude less 'chatty' than google.
- richliss 8y agoThis is true but let's face it if the 5 Eyes want to spy on you then you have massive problems - one person trying to defend against the state is an absolute fantasy. It's Google/Facebook/OnePlus/Samsung spying on me for commercial gain that I can do something about.
- lostlogin 8y agoNew Zealand is one of the 5 eyes, so you can pretty much ignore our capabilities. Unfortunately the other eyes make up for that, and then some.

- fucking_tragedy 8y agoThe surveillance infrastructure is there for use by intelligence agencies, but that doesn't mean that they have exclusive access. If you break message encryption for the government, the incentive to mine or sell that data still exists for a profit-driven entity.
- lawnchair_larry 8y agoThe problem with this is you (and most people) have no idea what PRISM actually is. It’s not what you think, but unfortunately the ham-fisted government doesn’t understand that is why they need transparency here. Unfortunately, they believe that discussing the nature of PRISM will cause terrorists who plot attacks over Google Hangouts (for example) to go dark, and that is the one and only priority that they have.
