Oh. My. God.
This story is written exactly like a script for a movie, designed to make the American reader feel patriotic to the country and hopefully decide to send more of their kids to endless wars.
Just wow.
- swingline-747 8y agoYup. It serves an agenda that has nothing to do with patriotism, remembrance or public service... it's all about selling cost-overrun planes in the ostensible names of "support our heroic troops (by spending more than the next 6 powers combined, more even than on healthcare)" and "we can't let 9/11 happen again (so buy these planes that our patriotic MIC are galantly making for us)." I'm not against "if you want peace, prepare for war" but being too prepared are partly how the Soviet Union and Rome collapsed.. there's a sane military and then there's white elephant ridiculousness.
