I recently participated in a Ruby conference (SunnyConf) and was shocked to see that out of ~100+ attendees, not a single woman, other than an organizer.
At local code camps, the balance is not quite that extreme, but still, heavily slanted.
A far cry from when I broke into the field, back in the '80s, when women outnumbered men in the development shops (or as was termed "Data Processing", and then "Systems…" in them days) I worked in.
Is the same condition as with Java, Python, .NET gatherings?
