Doesn’t California also require Starbucks to display “this may cause cancer” on its cups?
- spacehome 8y agoThe difference is that coffee will actually very minutely increase your risk of certain cancers (and reduce your risk of others). Microwave radiation on the other hand won't.
- gruez 8y agonot just coffee, any "hot beverage more than 65℃". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IARC_Group_2A_carcinogens https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IARC_Group_2A_carcinog...
- r00fus 8y agoYou telling me the Mormons had the right of it?
- JoshTriplett 8y agoIt might at short range in high concentrations, but ramping things up to the lab-experiment points that generate "may cause cancer" warnings is the equivalent of the Mythbusters "it didn't work but now let's try explosives". In fact, to the extent any potential harm exists, the characteristics of 5G would likely make it far less harmful; 5G does a far better job of managing both direction and power, whereas older cell technologies are more indiscriminate. World capital of NIMBY turns down development because NIMBY. Not surprised, just disappointed.
- k_sh 8y agoYes[0], due to the presence of acrylamide apparently. [0]: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-judge-rules-coffee-requires-cancer-warning-n861401 https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/california-judge-rules-...
- aphextron 8y agoNot on the cups, but the sign is there on the bar where you pick up.
- praneshp 8y agoNot sure if relevant, but my workplace put that notice all over the building last week. Not sure if a law changed.
- FullyFunctional 8y agoThey should just post the catch-all "Warning: living might prove fatal."
- taneq 8y agoBy that logic, driving a car increases your risk of cancer (relative to riding a motorcycle) and so should be labeled as such. (On the basis that you're a little more likely to live long enough to get it.)
- briandear 8y agoCalifornia needs a Prop 65 warning at all ports of entry. Then we can just assume everything causes cancer and get on with our lives.
- angled 8y agoAbsolutely. This is in Starbucks in San Rafael, right in the heart of Marin: https://i.imgur.com/FgFkx2O.jpg https://i.imgur.com/FgFkx2O.jpg
