What Would Happen If We Eliminated the World's Mosquitoes?
- HillaryBriss 8y agoWhy are some species better vectors than others? The answer is because mosquitoes don’t just carry diseases: they get sick from them. When the mosquito swallows infected blood, its own midgut gets infected. So, the mosquito species we want to eradicate are the ones who fall prey to the same diseases we humans fall prey to. It all seems so grim, trying to kill another species because it is a victim of a disease we ourselves fear. Maybe we should be trying to inoculate and protect mosquitoes against these diseases somehow, rather than killing them all off.
