Google is pushing Swift with a Tensorflow port, and if they were even remotely interested in doing a Java port for training, it would've happened already. I will say, no Apple or MS for me thanks. I hope Scala with Scala native continues to thrive, and for any additional pet projects not in Scala, frankly Python sounds pretty appealing to me as someone who eschews dynamic typing. 3.6 seems to have added some type inference, and it's popularity is up there with Java/C++/JS... Rust might be an option too.
