My equipment is hidden in walls and hard to reset. However, in this case, the problem was at the physical layer, not software configuration, so a reset would not have accomplished anything. Since I do not use Windows, I had to emulate Winbox in Wine... pretty awful experience, but in the end it worked while everything else failed. I would just prefer some sort of unix tool that ssh can use to connect to the equipment through layer 2.
