Oh yeah, I wasn't trying in any way to insinuate that Gimp should just 'become like software x', and I guess in the above, it sounded like x would be Blender. I don't think project-focused development would make it anything like Blender, or even change Gimp's weirdness. And (I'd like to think) that there's some overlap between what interest Gimp developers themselves, and what interest various users too. Personally I see the value in all the GEGL I myself make monthly donations to Øyvind Kolås, and I think it's important he just does what he thinks he needs to do. No "make Gimp like software X" stuff.
