In the long run, this is going to be a huge mistake for Google. Access to the Market is the only lever Google has to enforce some level of conformity on Android devices. If they give up the market, it will lead to even more fragmentation and, eventually, to Google's services being excluded from Android phones unless Google is willing to match the kickbacks Microsoft and other companies are willing to pay.
