I'd rather the freedom of the press, whatever that implies, not depend on the government deciding who counts as "the press". Media outlets are not heavily regulated in the U.S. for this reason, among others. Besides, media outlets exist, first and foremost, to pay the bills. They're not immune to bias or corruption either.
