I don't think Google is at wrong here for pushing its standard for its business. It is just doing what it's expected to do as a business. The problem is people getting comfortable with Google and depend on Google too much. In the end, Google is in a position to force decisions on everyone. If you are not happy with the way Google is doing things, stop using Google products and develop or use alternatives.
