A teacher's salary breakdown in the state of Nebraska.
50,000 * .65
= 32,500 / 12
= $2,708.
$700 for health insurance, dental, life insurance.
Home in a neighborhood where you feel reasonably safe : $900 month. Hopefully in an OK neighborhood, because you can't afford a private school.
$300/month for a car that actually starts reliably in the winter for the next five years.
Child care for a couple of small children ($500/mo per child).
You won't teach in the state of Nebraska without a four-year degree. $18,000/year*4, $72,000 of debt.
Let's hope nothing major comes up.
- atwebb 8y ago>$500/mo per child While it's only for a few years that's still off by 3 times in my experience.
- bena 8y agoThat would be closer to $700/year. Teachers are government employees. $300/month for a car? Really? You can get a decent car cheaper than that. In state tuition is going to be closer to $6k - $7k a year. Nebraska's average salary is $36k.
- deadmetheny 8y agoIn most of Nebraska, that's perfectly livable. Sure, you're not getting rich, but you're not starving either. And $18k a year is not a realistic number for someone who attended a state school in Nebraska.
- aantix 8y agoUNL's calculations with you living at home say otherwise. Even state schools are pricy these days. $80K+ for a four year degree is the norm.
