Which I guess again boils down to what I've always been saying: we need to find a way to make hardware manufacturing cheaper. You control the hardware, you control everything. We need more people controlling hardware in order to get a more healthy market.
- TeMPOraL 8y agoThe example 'pjc50 gave isn't one of just different hardware, it's one of a different class of hardware. I don't think letting people make hardware cheaper is going to help much now (you can make hardware prototypes cheap enough these days). Not to mention, bloat finds a way. See e.g. smartwatches. There was Pebble that managed to create a good, bloat-free piece of equipment. But the market was soon flooded by watches running... Android. Even navigations, biking computers and other sports devices run Android now.
- HeadsUpHigh 8y agoBy hardware I mean the actual silicon itself. OpenGL is so complex and patent-encumbered that I highly doubt anyone can make a new implementation at this point.
