Yes, this aspect of CORS is not nice. I've used https://github.com/jpillora/xdomain https://github.com/jpillora/xdomain to get around this and thought it was a thoroughly excellent workaround. There are other libraries that do this too (and according to the GH page, Google use the same approach for their APIs).
