I can’t say that I’m surprised, two burning skyscrapers and tow burning jets are going to be carcinogenic minefields. A friend of mine who was an EMT back then still talks about the incredible smell and particulates that we’re at the pit. A lot of guys knew they were taking long term risks with their health, but the work had to be done and they hoped for survivors. All I can say is that I hope we have measures in place to provide respiratory and full-body protection for first responders if something like this happens again.
