In 1955, when I was 5 years old, my family moved to Pasadena, CA. There was no air conditioning anywhere I can recall, definitely not at home or at school. I moved to Seattle about 30 years later. I returned to Southern California a few years ago and was surprised to find that most people here think they can't live without air-conditioning.
