If the cyclist had just descended a steep hill, being in the realm of 45mph is not at all unbelievable. I hit 35mph coasting down a very small hill on my commute every day.
- stefan_ 8y agoExcept drag increases quadratically so going 35 -> 45 mph is a much higher increase in energy than the numbers would suggest. No, I'm going to go with "person who never travels under his own power has no concept of human speeds".
- adrianN 8y agoI've hit 70km/h going downhill with some tail wind.
- rorykoehler 8y agoThey would not be blowing stop signs at 45mph unless there was a mechanical issue which stopped them form slowing down. The difference between 35mph and 45mph is huge on a bike.
