I'm currently reading Factfulness, and now I cringe whenever I see the word "gap" used in headlines like this.
edit: Getting downvoted for this tells me that not enough people here are reading Factfulness. Everyone who has read it knows what I'm talking about.
- tyleraldrich 8y agoYou're getting downvoted because it seems like you're plugging a book and didn't actually say why you cringe at the word "gap" - your comment is pointless and contributes nothing.
- vixen99 8y agoPlugging or mentioning? Anyway I didn't know about this book and now I do so said comment isn't pointless. No need for the unpleasant tone.
- tyleraldrich 8y agoI guess pointless depends on what you're reading the comment section for - I'd put you in the minority if you came here looking for book suggestions. It's certainly unrelated to the article, and the OP didn't understand why they received downvotes, so I believe my explanation was sufficient.
- beat 8y agoOr arguably, your explanation was at least as pointless as the original. And it is absolutely related to the article. The very concept and terminology of "gap" is the first thing Rosling critiques in Factfulness, as a faulty way of thinking that misleads us and keeps us from seeing the truth about the state of the world.

- beat 8y agoWill you do me a favor and please read Factfulness, by Hans Rosling? You can start with Bill Gates' review of it (which is what led me to read it). It will change your life. I haven't had my whole thought process spun around by a book before, ever.
- haste410 8y agoYou're probably being downvoted for not explaining what the book taught you that makes you cringe. Saying you read a book and now look down on some common, innocuous matter comes off as pretentious if you don't bother to give any insight.
