I just want to point out that there are a handful of initiatives trying to help fund the maintainer. I run the CodeFund platform. We provide ethical advertising on documentation websites and give up to 70% of all revenue to the developers. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s made an impact with quite a few OSS projects. There are other channels as well. Open Collective has been doing an amazing job as well as Carbon Ads.
