I read the book and can vouch for his approach. He's really talking about bullshit jobs that any reasonable person would accept as being bullshit. It's the combination of self-assessment and looking at the details of the job to evaluate its bullshitness according to some quite sensible criteria that he still doesn't overly prescribe (it's all quite reasonably presented as an initial investigation that isn't complete by any measure).
