There are so many metrics out there and everyone can choose whichever suits them best to make an argument. So, here's another one: Is a country able to be a nuclear power (note: Able to, not is one) - yes: Developed country. This metric has many downsides that I'm sure others will be happy to point out, but here is an upside compared to e.g. the traditional definition: The countries wealth cannot be used for military while parts of your population starve (or have less than 12k per year, to quote the formal definition).
