It really really depends on the job. A call center job I had years ago was absolutely miserable as a 4 x 10 schedule. Another gig I had used the 9/80 schedule -

It really really depends on the job. A call center job I had years ago was absolutely miserable as a 4 x 10 schedule. Another gig I had used the 9/80 schedule - 5 x 9 hour days, then 4 x 9 hour days, off a weekday every other week. (so every other weekend was a 3 day weekend.)
now I work in a completely different field (fire/EMS) and we have a 24 hour on/48 hour off rotation. 24 hours seems like an awfully long time, and if you're in a busy area, it can be, but for those 24 hours we live at the station.
