- AaronFriel 8y agoBrilliant idea, but it is a bit of a pain for desktop users, no? I'm not sure how I feel about impairing the usability of the site for people whose primary network connection is an older desktop. I wonder what their bounce rate is for links shared on different devices?
- burkaman 8y agoWhat do you mean? You can disable internet with one click on any device.
- xeromal 8y agoHow do I do that on my desktop? https://imgur.com/a/xG1YWwU https://imgur.com/a/xG1YWwU
- burkaman 8y agoOh, sorry, I swear there used to be a Internet Off switch there, the same as on wifi. I guess it's harder than I thought.
- AaronFriel 8y agoOkay, pretend for a moment I have a desktop, wired computer. OSX or Windows. (But most likely Windows.) Pretend I am computer illiterate family member. Please tell me how to view this digital magazine.
- burkaman 8y agoComputerate illiterate is a different question, I was talking about a knowledgeable person on a desktop. But I was wrong about that.
- abhiminator 8y agoIf you're on Firefox web browser: File-> Work Offline should do the trick. You can access the File menu by tapping once on your 'alt' key.
- mediumdeviation 8y agoBut how would they measure bounce rate when analytics won't work when the user is disconnected? :) Anyway since we're on HN you should know that Chrome has a "offline" button in its network tab in its developer tool, used for testing offline features, so you can take a single tab offline, instead of disconnecting everything.
- nayuki 8y agoWhat mechanism does the web site use to detect whether you're online or offline?
- pritambaral 8y agoLooks like browser events 'offline' and 'online': https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/NavigatorOnLine/Online_and_offline_events https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/NavigatorOn...
