I hadn't heard that Wallace quote before but that almost exactly nails how I feel. The emotional cost of maintaining friendships and relationships, and the pain of losing really close ones, is just too much and I've decided it's not worth it. I am honestly happier without all that.

When did this happen? Did anything specific cause it? What is your life like now? Lots of questions, but I've never heard this development phrased in a positive way before. It's usually associated with social withdrawal and depression.
