I bet this blog post was about javascript :p About your steps. The problem I often see around work is that A bug in prod doesn't get patched in the mainline then pushed all the way up ASAP so it can't accidentally promote up again as it exists somewhere in test or preprod as well. I like the CI/CD approach of just having everything go down the same pipe as it seems to be a decent way to at address point 5.
