The Ares Project (https://www.aresnorthamerica.com/ https://www.aresnorthamerica.com/) did something like this with robot trains shuttling concrete blocks up and down a slope. No news on that project in awhile tho. I hope this idea is more successful.
- theunamedguy 8y agoQuick question: how does the electricity get from the train (in motion) to the grid? Using the rails as conductors could work, but I'm not sure how efficient that would be.
- roywiggins 8y agoIt looks like overhead wires? https://www.aresnorthamerica.com/about-ares-north-america https://www.aresnorthamerica.com/about-ares-north-america
- ebikelaw 8y agoThird-rail electric distribution is an established technology.
- tgsovlerkhgsel 8y agoOne way would be using a funicular: The "train" is just the weight, pulled up/lowered on a cable that's connected to a motor-generator at the top. Would also make it cheaper to build extra wagons, with a storage yard at the top and bottom.
