I usually find that when people request something weird, it's because they have a "special sauce" idea they want to implement and not tell me about. As for sqlite3 being overkill, go check out the code for loading the config with sqlite, and for just parsing the config in m2sh. Parsing is way harder and more overkill than just querying a db.
