- AndrewUnmuted 8y agoDo you not see how your reply to the OP's sincere question amounts to the same lackluster, overgeneralized, and lazy intellectual stance that the people you're criticizing take on climate science? You couldn't have more aptly proved the OP's point.
- froogie 8y agoHonestly, I do not see it that way. To me it seems as if sizable chunk of people believe in nonsense, and the nonsensical beliefs and actions based on such beliefs are detrimental not only to the people holding such beliefs, but every single living entity on this planet, future generations included. How is that acceptable? With what right do the people holding these beliefs keep acting the way they do? It is the reaponsibility of the rest of us to stop this madness as soon as possible. It is the responsibility we as species hold to our ancestors and future generations. If it is all in vain for you. Fine. But please do consider other living organisms as as important as you, for you are one of us. We are in this together.
- antisthenes 8y ago> Do you not see how your reply to the OP's sincere question amounts to the same lackluster, overgeneralized, and lazy intellectual stance that the people you're criticizing take on climate science? Do not give equal weight to nonsense beliefs and beliefs supported by decades of science. That's the real toxicity - when you try to attempt to give them equivalency despite different efforts having gone into forming them. I'm sorry that isn't clear to some people, but that doesn't make nonsense any less excusable or valid or show a need to 'win their hearts'.
- luckydata 8y agoThere was nothing sincere about OP's question just as there's nothing lackluster about my answer. You can play your two-sideism game with people that buy that bullshit, I don't.

- guscost 8y agoFrom my perspective, an authority with power to regulate the gas that all animals exhale seems like a more serious threat to myself and to those I care about. I can understand how you might disagree though.
- 78h321sadfh7z 8y agoYour slightly aggressive stance is not very helpful, but as someone who does not agree with the IPCC fear mongering, I regularly have to deal with this behavior when I talk with people about my views regarding our planet's climate. Over-confidence is by the way not necessarily a trait associated with intelligence, and being in doubt and sceptical (about politically motivated consensus) is one of the hallmarks of science. You have to accept that people who think differently about certain topics also do not agree with your conclusions, i.e. that you are being killed due to man-made climate change. A similar argument can be made from the opposite side: That running with the herd and appealing to authority is a fundamental enemy of science and the prerequisite for succumbing into a dark age. So I could ask: Why are people pushing irrational climate fears trying to kill me and my family? But I won't do that, because I know that most people have good intentions, and that the only way forward is in allowing views to be expressed, without emotional pressure and social ostracism. Especially when it involves climate models that often depict change on the scale of hundreds of years. The biggest mistake of the scientific majority was explaining that the debate is over even before it had actually started. Thanks to moving a scientific debate into a political debate before things were settled, we are now in a situation with no apparent way forward since the political sides are basically hardened and most scientists are not allowed to question their collectivist stance.
- briandear 8y agoAre you actually at risk for being killed? A bit hyperbolic wouldn’t you say?

- luckydata 8y agoI live in California, not that hard for me to be killed by global warming. Our water is becoming scarcer, fires more violent. Combination of heat waves and blackouts are notorious for killing the elderly and children (and I have both parents AND a small kid). The real question is why aren't you more worried? I wonder where your money comes from and where you live.
- freedomben 8y agoI've been really thinking about this, and I have a follow up question. Attempted murder is a felony in the US. If denying climate change is really "going to kill us all," and climate deniers "are trying to kill [you] and [your] family," should they be jailed and prosecuted for attempted murder? If not, why? Are they not guilty of that crime?
- mirimir 8y agoThat's implausible. Even a civil claim would be a stretch. But still, I doubt that the major players will have such great reputations. Consider the Truth Tobacco Industry Documents collection, for example.[0] 0) https://www.industrydocumentslibrary.ucsf.edu/tobacco/ https://www.industrydocumentslibrary.ucsf.edu/tobacco/
- luckydata 8y agoYou do a great job at pretending to be dumb, I almost bought it. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/Healthday/story?id=4507735&page=1 https://abcnews.go.com/Health/Healthday/story?id=4507735&pag... https://www.dw.com/en/report-extreme-weather-could-kill-over-150000-europeans-per-year-by-2100/a-39974926 https://www.dw.com/en/report-extreme-weather-could-kill-over... http://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/climate-change-and-health http://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/climate-chan... We just discovered the climate change is happening much faster than our models suggested meaning all those predictions are OPTIMISTIC. I live in a US state that's currently covered in smoke because it's all burning, and a bunch of people die every year in increasingly harder to control fires. You know what's the most enraging part of this? People like you that go around using logical fallacies to argue a completely discredited side of a very black and white matter simply because you believe it doesn't affect you.
