Ironically I’ve heard this same argument used to justify a negative reaction to everything from gay people, to women in a niqab. Maybe the issue is that having a “valid feeling” is like having an asshole? Yes, it’s real, yes we all have them, but so what? An irrational fear of a black teenager, however valid the state of being irrationally afraid may be deemed to be, is still no one’s problem except for the person who is afraid. The same can be said in this case.
