Repeat after me. Addiction is not dependence. Dependence is not addiction. When I read "dependence is expected", I will not interpret it as "addiction is expected", and I will ESPECIALLY not immediately assume tolerance, drug seeking, preoccupation, or harming oneself just because of dependence.
- DanBC 8y agoOpioids cause tolerance, drug seeking, preoccupation, and continuance even though the patient knows they're harmful This behaviour is long established and well known.
- GordonS 8y agoI don't think blanket statements like this are helpful, and I think this should be prefaced with 'For some people'. Opioids do not cause drug seeking behaviour in all people.
