If there is a large enough group of people that's effectively banned from mainstream social media, it's entirely natural that they will be over-represented within the largest platform that doesn't ban them. This doesn't mean the platform in question is designed specifically to cater to those groups.
- pcwalton 8y agoSo? Andrew Torba is obviously a neo-Nazi.
- tptacek 8y agoAgain: this was flagged, but Patrick isn't trying to be inflammatory. I think it's pretty reasonable to suggest that about Torba.
- lylecubed 8y agoIt's not even within a football stadium of being reasonable.
- tptacek 8y agoMaybe it'd be more fair to say "whoever's actually managing Gab". Again, see upthread.
- lylecubed 8y agoI read the thread. It's still not a reasonable thing to say without proof and you don't have any. If I used your logic, it would be entirely acceptable to say youtube supports jihad against the west because it doesn't actively censor Al Qaida recruitment videos. If you had a screenshot of Torba saying he was a Nazi and believed in National Socialism, then it would be reasonable to say.
- tptacek 8y agoHere's another for you: https://twitter.com/Popehat/status/1027671587825172480 https://twitter.com/Popehat/status/1027671587825172480 You sure you want to keep digging into this sewer? I'm sure there's worse we'll find.
- lylecubed 8y agoHas he or has he not declared himself a National Socialist? You can't just go around and call people nazis because you dislike their politics. That would be as valid as me calling you a commie because I don't like yours. Words have meaning. Commie.
- pcwalton 8y agoMaybe there's some kind of line that divides "white supremacist who spews Pepe memes and vile anti-Semitism" from "neo-Nazi", but really, does anyone care?
