Who are the organisations pushing for these bans? Are they completely anonymous?
- pandasun 8y agoIt's the same people who are downvoting you, it's anonymous people that can't handle different political views. Yesterday it was Alex Jones, now it's Gab, Voat will be next, then The_Donald etc. Sticks and stones is a foreign concept to people reporting these sites. They want everyone to agree with them. And since most of the major hosting companies have that liberal culture going on, they will happily ban them. Now watch my post get downvoted and flagged :)
- charonn0 8y agoJust to be clear, his "political views" are a call for violence.
- pandasun 8y agoInteresting, you see I see calls of violence on Twitter all the time but their hosting company isn't threatening to ban them. And if you mean "me" by "his": I don't call for violence.
- sctb 8y agoWe just asked you to please go read the guidelines and follow them. Could you do that now? We don't need any more flamebait here. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- pandasun 8y agoActually I responded to that, and you never got back to me. See here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17671916 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17671916 Feel free to ban me though, this site is the worst echo chamber I've ever seen, hiding behind selectively enforced rules.
- dragonwriter 8y agoWho said they are organizations? It to doesn't take much to see some content, do a little research to identify a responsible host, and file a ToS complaint.
- chvid 8y agoYeah. It just seems very coordinated. I would have thought had it been random individuals there would be a lot of chatter and cheers when a call for a ban succeeded. And some chatter on who to pick. But I could be wrong. Just wondered if someone could put a face on who is pushing for this.
- 21 8y agoIt could also be just Microsoft employees: > Late yesterday, Dorsey posted a tweetstorm explaining Twitter’s decision not to ban notorious conspiracy theorist Alex Jones ... At that point, current Twitter employees got in on the action. Marina Zhao, a senior software engineer on the Twitter Moments team, called out her CEO for muddled thinking
- jewelthief91 8y agoI believe the ADL (Jewish civil rights organization) is most active here. This is the reason these anti-semitic posts were to be taken down rather than other equally vicious hate speech against other minorities. Tragically this plays right into the Nazi's hands because they can put forth the narrative that Jews control the world because, as a relatively tiny minority, hate speech against them is most actively countered.
- jewelthief91 8y agoLooks like the ADL didn't like my comment. /s
- dang 8y agoWe've banned this account for using HN primarily for political battle. That's not what this site is for, and we ban accounts that do it, regardless of their politics. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- jewelthief91 8y agoHave you really banned me for saying Nazis are bad? What a bad precedent...
- jewelthief91 8y agoAlpha Delta Lima. (Apparently spelling out the acronym gets your post blocked???)
