Google, APK ... if you're concerned about security, you would use Apple iOS only.
- jhasse 8y agoApple has root access to every device just like Google has to Android phones running Google Play Services.
- auslander 8y agoSecurity wise, Apple iOS is superior in any possible aspect to Android. Forensics people never complain how hard it is do Android, never :)
- jhasse 8y ago> Security wise, Apple iOS is superior in any possible aspect to Android. One aspect where Android is superior is that more of it is open-source.
- UncleMeat 8y agoGreat. Nobody cares. There are way more android users than iphone users. If your goal is to improve the security for the most people possible, you make an android app.
- superkuh 8y agoIf you're concerned about security you don't use a smart phone and don't use your phone as a computing device. I know it's a lot to ask of people and so most will simply ignore the massive, unfixable (at least yet), security and privacy issues (ie, 5 years of your location 24 hours a day tracked, stored, and sold to whoever wants to pay). But really, smart phones are bad. Even dumb cell phones are bad. And if you care about security you'll use a real computer without a closed, bug-ridden (an maybe even backdoor-ridden) baseband modem that can read/write to your entire user OS RAM. All this bikeshedding about the minor security issues on top is a waste of time. That Signal requires a phone number to use is all you need to know. It's not secure.
- auslander 8y agoTotally agree, and will use a real computer once I find pants with wide enough pocket for it :)
- superkuh 8y agoMy everyday solution is pretty simple. I don't carry a computing device with me. If I do carry a cell phone it's turned off. If I'm in my car I use an old thinkpad laptop and my own 900 MHz wireless network using ubiquiti transceivers and a 30ft pole on my house at home with a custom antenna sticking up out of my vehicle's sunroof. The car's kit re-serves this IP link to my home network over wifi to any devices in the vicinity of my car. ie, I park it in front of my friend's house.
- auslander 8y agoHmm, have you thought about Intel Firmware Support Package (FSP) and Intel ME, that is like baseband on mobiles, and can too read/write to your entire OS installed on your Thinkpad? https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intel https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intel Point is, there is no pure platforms today, except probably some Marvell ARM boards with full open source firmware.
