- TokyoKid 8y agoMight I remind people that this is the country that the West went literally ballistic over, claiming they were ready and willing to destroy the world at any minute because... communism. In actual fact, they were a country under siege from a delusional, capitalist world that they could not convince of their desire for peace and prosperity. After the people of Vietnam, Korea and Afghanistan showed desire to organize like the Soviets did, we got the Korean war, the Vietnam war and the creation of Al Qaeda. The loss of life was tremendous in the U.S. campaign to stop the spread of a united working class. Now large parts of Russia sit in ruin and we can freely look at Soviet documents to see the threat, at least technologically, was never really there. The real threat was, however. That threat was a collective working class.
