Sounds like you are looking at more automated solutions anyways, but if you end up making a backup from a Drive that is synced to your computer, realize you are only backing up links to google sheets, docs, and slides, not the actual files. In the case that those files disappear from the web your “files” will no longer open. As far as I can tell, your only option is to export them in their native format (e.g. .docx) if you actually want the data. Learned this the hard way!
