I hope this isn't true. MS already has so many ways of making money off of Windows users through various services, this move is akin to Gillette doing monthly lease for its razor, on top of charging separately for blades. It would be pure greed and abuse of monopolistic position.

Based on an article, making all these speculations is not right. It could be very well for Azure/Cloud machines where there providing feasibility of temporary license or subscription model.
