I have enjoyed watching the electronic badge scene at Defcon unfold this year. I don't know how long its been a scene, but some of the badges are pretty impressive mesh networks, blockchains, and breathalyzers. It really brings to mind something like the demo or 'zine scenes of old. It's spreading to the other conventions and meetups it will be interesting to see how far it will go. If you search #badgelife on twitter you can see some of the action unfold. https://twitter.com/hashtag/badgelife https://twitter.com/hashtag/badgelife @hacker_hermit has compiled a list https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NgPj-GdSLcI1Rb2Q2sJ5BP0MO2vm2MXv_sLVqHSL8wM/edit#gid=0 https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NgPj-GdSLcI1Rb2Q2sJ5... Kerry Scharfglass has a video which explains some of the history and process: https://youtu.be/PUvh5-_HJJg https://youtu.be/PUvh5-_HJJg Pretty cool stuff, maybe one of these days I'll find a Conch of Sobriety.
