I've watched many of my and coworkers spending huge amounts of time (many hours a month) fiddling with the complexities of managing software packages on OSX systems. Everything was so frighteningly manual and impossible to reproduce. They easily individually used 50x as much time doing that as I spent fiddling with my Linux installation. Those are levels of effort that definitely matter to me enough that I put importance in the OS I use.
- ofrzeta 8y agoAs both a Linux and macOS user, on both the desktop (I even dual boot Linux and macOS on the Mac Mini) and the laptop, I find Homebrew satisfies my needs for third party software package installation.
- crispinb 8y agoThere goes the automatic response. I really don't care what your coworkers do, because I'm not amassing evidence for a general proposition (if I were interested enough in that I'd go an do a Phd on it). I have used OSX/macOS for several years. It has used close to zero of my limited time to maintain. That's what I want from an OS.
